If you would like your son/daughter to participate on a JV or Varsity sport team this year, he/she needs to be in good academic standing and have a completed sports physical submitted to and approved by the school nurse prior to the start of the season (including concussion testing for contact sports as described below). Please be aware of the following items that relate to all sport seasons: 1) At the HS level, especially varsity, it is expected that all athletes come into the tryout process in top physical condition to give him/her the best opportunity to make the team. 2) An athlete who does not have the proper physical clearance is not eligible to participate in any part of a tryout/practice. 3) An athlete who does not actively participate during the sports specific tryout/practice sessions may not be eligible to be a member of the team. 4) If an athlete is injured prior to the tryout process, but still wants to be on the team after cleared, they must attend all tryouts and practices from the first day of the season to be eligible to be medically cleared during the season. 5) During the course of the athletic season, members of the press will be photographing and/or filming our athletic teams and players. Unless the Athletic Office is notified in writing otherwise, it will be assumed that you are giving the school district permission for your son/daughter to be photographed and/or filmed during any sporting event throughout the year. 6) Due to the nature of high school athletics, it will be necessary for coaches to hold practices and/or games/meets on Saturdays, holidays and/or during school vacation breaks. By permitting your son/daughter to join a team you are agreeing to this policy and it is expected that your son/daughter participate during these practices/games in lieu of personal vacations or school visits. Absences at practice and/or games during these times may result in suspension of game play or expulsion from team if repeated.
FALL ATHLETES ONLY: The nurse will give the athlete a clearance document that must be submitted to the head coach on the first day of practice. Without this clearance, your son/daughter will not be permitted to tryout and/or practice and it could affect his/her selection to the team. Physicals and clearances are being offered to all fall athletes at the High School (report to the main gym from the field entrance), on the following days: 8/15 from 7:00-11:00AM for football players only. All other athletes can come on 8/16, 8/17, 8/18 or 8/22 from 7-11 AM; 8/22 only if that team has a PM tryout time. Due to construction this summer, physical forms can be picked up from the Administrative Office located at 128 Shepherd Street or you may download the forms from the nursing website at www.rvcschools.org and click on health services found under departments. If your child is trying out for a contact sport (football, volleyball, diving, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball, wrestling, basketball, cheerleading or gymnastics) and did not have the IMPACT testing in 2015 or 2016, please have him/her report to the HS auxiliary gym on August 15, 16, 17, 18 or 22 between 8:00-11:30AM where they will be escorted to room 2311 for the test. This computer-based test will take approximately 20-30 minutes.

CHEERLEADING: Cheerleading tryouts will be held for both squads on 8/22, 8/23, 8/24, & 8/25 from 10am to 1pm in the HS auxiliary gym. First day of practice is 8/26 from 10am to 1pm in the auxiliary gym. Should you have any questions, please contact Coach Montuori at email@example.com.
CROSS COUNTRY: On Monday, 8/22, all runners should meet outside on the bleachers at the High School at 9AM and be ready to run. On 8/23, 8/24, 8/25 and 8/26 all runners should report, at 9AM sharp, directly to Hempstead Lake State Park. Enter park on Peninsula and meet by the softball bleachers to the left. GOLF: On Monday, 8/22, any athlete who wishes to try out for the Golf team should report to the High School at 8AM for a team meeting in the auxiliary gym. Tryouts will be held later that morning at either Lido Golf Course or Eisenhower Park pending course availability. Students will be expected to arrange for their own transportation to and from the course throughout the week. Depending on weather, nine holes will be played each day. SOCCER (BOYS): On 8/22 all returning Varsity players, as well as any incoming 11th and 12th graders, should report directly to South Field at 6:45AM sharp. For the week of 8/22-8/27 varsity will have double sessions in the morning and early evening. The schedule for the week will be distributed the morning of the 22nd. All incoming 9th and 10th graders, unless specified by the varsity coach, should report to Tighe Field at 10AM sharp on 8/22. Please make arrangements to be dropped off and picked-up as there will be no buses before school begins. There will be practice every day except for Sunday, 8/28, INCLUDING Labor Day. SOCCER (GIRLS): On 8/22 all JV and Varsity players should report to South Field at 9:30AM. Girls MUST bring their own soccer ball, shin guards, sneakers, cleats, a white t-shirt (coaches will be writing a tryout number on the t-shirt) and plenty of water/sports drinks. On 8/23 there will also be a 7:15-8:30PM two-mile run at the HS (no soccer supplies needed, but bring water). Practice times for the rest of the week will be discussed on 8/22. There will be practice every day except for Sunday, 8/28, INCLUDING Labor Day. Please make arrangements to be dropped off and picked-up as there will be no buses before school begins. SWIMMING (GIRLS): On 8/22, 8/23, 8/24, 8/25, 8/26, and 8/27 any female athlete who wants to try out for the swim/dive team should report to the RVC Links Pool at 7AM. Tryouts will be from 7AM-9AM. Practice times/locations for the following week will be discussed. Please make arrangements to be dropped off and picked-up as there will be no buses before school begins. TENNIS (GIRLS): On 8/22, any female athlete who wants to try out for the Varsity Girls Tennis Team should report to the tennis courts at Hempstead Lake State Park at 10AM (time may vary-check website the day before). Practice times for the rest of the week will be announced at the first practice. Please make arrangements to be dropped off and picked-up, as there will be no buses before school begins. VOLLEYBALL (GIRLS): On 8/22, 8/23, 8/24, 8/25, 8/26, & 8/27 both the JV & Varsity team tryouts will be in the high school main gym from 9AM-11:30AM and 1PM-3:30PM.
